Your Role as a Designer at NORR

Joining us as a Designer, you will be at the forefront of integrating technical detailing and material technologies. Your role is pivotal in transforming design solutions into coherent construction documents. You will:

  • Design and Technical Detailing: Apply your sharp analytical skills to understand design intent and produce efficient, effective technical design solutions.
  • Collaborative Design Development: Work alongside our design team to develop solutions that are contextually relevant, budget-conscious, and aesthetically pleasing.
  • In-depth Knowledge Application: Utilize your understanding of detailing, building materials, codes, and construction technologies in collaboration with other professional disciplines.
  • Project Phase Coordination: Be involved in coordinating the design through all project phases, ensuring excellence and coherence.

Duties and Responsibilities: Crafting Architectural Excellence

  • Technical Design Development: Develop technical designs, edit architectural drawings, and ensure delivery of exemplary solutions within time and budget constraints.
  • Comprehensive Design Activities: Engage in programming, code research, material and systems research, and layout of program components.
  • Site Evaluation and Surveys: Assess site conditions and conduct thorough site surveys.
  • Project Review and Coordination: Review project outputs, services, and shop drawings, responding to and coordinating necessary revisions.
  • Permit and Documentation Processing: Handle permit response letters, collaborating with engineers and consultants to secure necessary documentation and permits.
  • Constructability and Client Concerns: Coordinate with contractors and consultants to address constructability issues or client concerns.

Skills and Experience: Your Path to Success at NORR

  • Experience Across Project Phases: A background in all project phases is essential.
  • Architectural Software Proficiency: Skills in Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software are vital.
  • MEP and Structural Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with these systems and building codes is crucial.
  • Educational Background: A degree in a relevant field, with post-secondary education in architecture or a related field.
  • Professional Registration: Registration with a professional architectural association is an asset.

Experience Requirements

  • Project Experience: 5-7 years of project work experience, with restaurant project experience being a significant asset.
